The Masri Foundation, dedicated to supporting impactful cultural and artistic projects, funded the film Taif al Madina (In the Shadows of the City), directed by the late, esteemed Lebanese filmmaker Jean Khalil Chamoun. Renowned for his commitment to depicting Lebanon’s social and political struggles, Chamoun earned accolades,  including the Cannes Junior Award. 

Released in 2000, the Lebanese drama poignantly captures the human condition during Lebanon’s civil war. It follows 12-year-old Rami and his family as they flee bombings in southern Lebanon to seek refuge in Beirut. Rami’s relentless search for his abducted father amidst harsh realities forces him to confront the challenges of survival, including reluctantly joining a militia. Funding this film highlights the Foundation’s dedication to preserving and amplifying stories of resilience and humanity during times of conflict.
