Urban Planning Development Project – Nablus

  • Location: Nablus, Palestine
  • Partner Institution: Nablus Municipality

Considering the challenges facing the urban landscape in Nablus, including the need to improve streets, public parks, and public squares, Nablus Municipality and the Munib & Angela Masri Foundation launched the Nablus Urban Landscape Development Project through a Memorandum of Understanding. The project aims to develop implementation plans for a series of urban initiatives designed to enhance the quality of life for the city’s residents.

The project includes the rehabilitation of a number of the city’s streets that suffer from deterioration and lack of organization, in addition to the creation of green spaces, the organization of pedestrian and vehicle routes, and the removal of encroachments, including the removal of unauthorized street stalls, encroachments on sidewalks and streets, building violations, and everything that hinders the movement of citizens and vehicles or distorts the urban appearance. This is with the aim of organizing markets, restoring order to the city, and facilitating movement, while taking into consideration the city’s historical character and presenting a unique and attractive urban model.

The project also included the preparation of the spatial plan for the city of Nablus, which is a planning document whose implementation was funded by the Munib & Angela Masri Foundation, with the aim of organizing the city’s future development and expansion and that of the surrounding areas within a time frame extending over 16 years.

The plan works to guide spatial development through defining the boundaries of urban expansion and organizing land uses and road networks, in a manner that contributes to linking the city of Nablus with neighboring communities, improving infrastructure and public services, and creating an integrated and healthy urban environment for citizens, in accordance with the laws and regulations in force in Palestine.
