The Munib & Angela Masri Foundation believes in the power of art to influence and drive change, and is committed to supporting social causes, promoting solidarity, and celebrating human resilience. This commitment is embodied in funding the film 3000 Nights, directed by the distinguished Palestinian filmmaker Mai Masri, renowned for her focus on women’s and children’s issues in conflict zones. Released in 2015, the film presents a poignant portrayal of resilience, sacrifice, and the unbreakable determination of the human spirit.
The film tells the story of Layal, a young Palestinian teacher who is unjustly accused and imprisoned in an Israeli jail. During her imprisonment, she discovers she is pregnant, compelling her to summon extraordinary courage to raise her child under harsh conditions. The film also chronicles her unwavering resolve to protect her son and preserve her dignity and hope despite all challenges.
The film has received widespread acclaim and garnered numerous prestigious international awards, including the Audience Award for Best Film at the Valladolid International Film Festival, the Youth Jury Award for Best Narrative Film at the International Film Festival and Human Rights Forum (FIFDH), as well as special recognition at the Carthage Film Festival, including the Best Screenplay Award.
