The Munib & Angela Masri Foundation, represented by its founder, Munib R. Masri, participated in the official handover ceremony of the Nablus Municipal Council. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Local Government, Dr. Eng. Sami Hijjawi; the Governor of Nablus, Ghassan Daghlas; senior officials, directors, and representatives of the sovereign security agencies; former Mayor of Nablus, Dr. Husam Shakhshir, and members of the former municipal council; the newly appointed Mayor of Nablus, Anan Atteereh; as well as a number of public figures and representatives of national, community, and civil society institutions.
The Foundation congratulated the new Mayor and members of the municipal council, wishing them success in carrying out their responsibilities. It also emphasized that the coming phase requires collective efforts and a strong sense of responsibility to advance the city of Nablus, which deserves and needs the combined efforts of all segments of its community and institutions.
The Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to continuing joint work with the Nablus Municipality across various development projects, foremost among them is the Nablus Urban Landscape Development Project. The project aims to develop implementation plans for a series of urban initiatives designed to enhance citizens’ quality of life and improve the city’s urban environment.
Several interventions have already been implemented under the project, most notably the rehabilitation of the Munib R. Masri Street, as part of a memorandum of understanding between the Nablus Municipality and the Foundation. The project also includes the rehabilitation of several streets across the city, the creation of green spaces, the organization of pedestrian and vehicle routes, and the removal of encroachments on sidewalks and streets. These include unauthorized stalls, construction violations, and any obstructions that may hinder pedestrian or vehicle movement or negatively affect the city’s urban appearance.
The project also led to the drafting of the Nablus Spatial Plan, a planning document funded by the Foundation. The plan aims to guide the city’s future development and expansion, as well as that of its surrounding areas, over a 16-year timeframe. The Foundation looks forward to its official adoption, given its importance as a strategic framework for organizing urban development in Nablus.
The Foundation concluded by reaffirming its continued support for Nablus Municipality’s development and service efforts, in line with its vision to promote sustainable development and serve the local community.
